Charicot is a bright, open market town on the flank of the deep, wide Tama valley. There are fine pictures to be taken of the market with mountains as a backdrop. This is your first view of the Rolwaling himal.
The trail rises slowly through Dolkha village, an hour from Charicot. The land is intensively farmed, for maize, millet and rice.
Makabari is two hours further, through a similar environment. It offers excellent views North, showing the river far below and a seemingly endless sea of terraces. Above this floats the Rolwaling himal.
The village itself is small, built of stone and wood. The population are Newari, Chettri and Tamang. All are farmers.
Please note that these images are the same size as, but of lower quality to those in the Guide.
